What "your data stays on your device" actually means
“Your data stays on your device” is only useful if it says what data and what exceptions. Here is the version you can check.
What is stored, and where
Everything you enter — an Activity, plan details, records, difficult Moments, notes, costs, goals and settings — is written to the app’s private storage on your phone. On iOS that is the app sandbox. On Android it is internal storage, with cloud and device-transfer backup disabled.
It is one JSON document. It has the protection your device provides at rest; anyone holding your unlocked phone can read it, just as they can read other data on that phone. A device passcode is the relevant control.
Where another copy can exist
There are four cases:
- An iOS device backup. If iCloud Backup is enabled, it may retain app data in your Apple account. Quitmark cannot read it. Android cloud backup and device transfer are disabled for the app.
- A purchase or restore. The App Store or Google Play handles the one-time unlock. Quitmark does not receive payment details.
- A support link you tap. That opens a browser, where the browser’s rules apply rather than the app’s.
- An export you ask for. The app writes a file to the destination you choose. It remains wherever you save or share it.
The app contains no analytics, crash reporter or advertising SDK. It does not send Activity records to a Quitmark server because there is no such server.
Why that rests on more than good intentions
The claim is structural rather than a promise. The business logic — the plan projections, the records, the estimates, the Progress markers — is one shared library used by both the iPhone and Android apps, and that library has no network client in it. It could not phone home if a future version of us wanted it to; adding the capability would be a visible change to how the app is built, not a config flag.
What happens when you delete
Settings can remove the profile and history from that installation, in two steps so it cannot happen by accident. It does not remove an iOS device backup or a file you already exported or shared. Quitmark cannot restore a deleted history because it never held a copy. Importing a backup, exporting a copy and deleting everything are free.
And this website
The website separately counts page views with a privacy-focused analytics service that sets no cookies and builds no profile. The app does not send it your Activity data. The privacy notice covers both services.
